Instead of acting defensive and “pikon” over the “noynoying” term coined by youth activists, Malacanang should start doing something about the problem of high oil prices. It must act now. As it stands today, Malacanang has opposed the removal or reduction of the VAT on oil. It has not pushed for any substantial wage increase despite the recent spate of price increases. It has not pushed its allies to review the oil deregulation law despite several pending bills now gathering dust in Congress. The President has been noticably silent and absent when it comes to problems plaguing the economy; a far cry from his high-profile role when it comes to the impeachment of Chief Justice Renato Corona.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating. However, Malacanang appears content with the fine art of doing nothing.
